Are documents signed with PearSign legally binding?
In most cases, yes. Electronic signatures are recognized under the U.S. ESIGN Act and UETA, and under eIDAS in the EU, provided the parties intend to sign and consent to do business electronically. PearSign captures that consent and records a full audit trail. Some document types (such as certain wills, deeds, and family-law filings) may be excluded or carry extra requirements, so check the rules for your document type and jurisdiction.
What does it mean that PearSign is AATL-certified?
AATL stands for the Adobe Approved Trust List, a program of vetted certificate authorities whose digital certificates are automatically trusted in Adobe Acrobat and Reader. When a PearSign document is completed, it is sealed with an AATL-backed digital certificate, so the signature shows as trusted and tamper-evident when the PDF is opened, without the recipient configuring anything.
What is the difference between an electronic signature and a digital signature?
An electronic signature is the legal act of signing electronically: clicking to agree, typing a name, or drawing a mark. A digital signature is the underlying cryptographic technology (a certificate-based seal) that proves who signed and that the document has not changed since. PearSign combines both: an electronic signature to capture intent, protected by an AATL digital-signature seal.
How does PearSign make the audit trail tamper-evident?
Every completed document is sealed with a cryptographic digital certificate and its contents are fingerprinted with a SHA-256 hash. The certificate of completion records each event with a UTC timestamp, the signer's name and email, IP address, device, and authentication method. If anyone alters the file after signing, the cryptographic seal no longer validates, which is what 'tamper-evident' means.
Do signers need a PearSign account to sign?
No. Recipients sign from a secure link in their browser or on mobile; no account, download, or app install required. The signer completes any fields, provides consent to sign electronically, and the finished document is returned to your PearSign workspace, sealed and audit-trailed.
How does the AI document drafting work?
You describe the document you need and PearSign's AI produces an editable first draft and suggests where signature and data fields should go. The draft is a starting point to speed you up; it is not legal advice. You review and edit everything before sending, and you remain responsible for the final content.
Is PearSign free to use?
PearSign has a free tier of 10 envelopes per month with no credit card required. Paid plans add higher volume, longer document retention, and additional features. An envelope is a document or set of documents sent for signature.
Is Pear Sign the same as PearSign?
Yes. The brand is one word, PearSign, but it is often written as Pear Sign or Pearsign, and all three refer to the same e-signature platform at pearsign.com. There is no separate product or company behind the other spellings.
